Tiqets Announces Winners of the 4th Annual Most Remarkable Venue Awards

Amsterdam, 10 December 2020 - Last night, Tiqets’ 2020 Remarkable Venue Awards celebrated the achievements of 42 winning museums and attractions in Europe and the United States. Winners included the Efteling (NL), Sagrada Familia (SP), the MoMA (US), Musée du quai Branly- Jacques Chirac (FR), and many more.

With more than 150 nominees and spanning 7 categories and 6 markets, the 4th annual Remarkable Venue Awards was a chance for museums and attractions to celebrate at the end of a challenging year. This was the first time the awards were announced in a global, online ceremony, with hundreds of museums and attractions tuned in to celebrate each other’s accomplishments and get inspired for a better 2021. 

A large variety of regions and types of venues were represented in the awards ceremony, from California to Amsterdam, and from iconic landmarks to hidden gems. In the 5 core award categories, winners were selected based on the best-rated venues from 750,000 vetted customer reviews on Tiqets.com in 2020. 

Most Remarkable Venue: This award recognizes the most popular venues that have both drawn the largest crowds and received the highest-rated visitor reviews on Tiqets in 2020.

Winners: Jameson Distillery Bow St. (UK & Ireland), the Museum of Modern Art (US), Sagrada Familia (SP), Efteling (NL), Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac (FR), Acquario di Genova (IT)

Best Museum: This award recognizes the best-rated museums and art galleries based on Tiqets’ visitor reviews in 2020.

Winners: Glasnevin Cemetery Museum (UK & Ireland), USS Midway Museum (US), Salvador Dalí House-Museum (SP), Van Gogh Museum (NL), Musée des Confluences (FR), Collezione Peggy Guggenheim (IT)

Best Attraction: This award recognizes the best-rated attractions (including theme parks, zoos and aquariums) based on Tiqets’ visitor reviews in 2020.

Winners: Stamford Bridge Stadium Tour (UK & Ireland), Aquarium of the Pacific (US), 

Camp Nou and IDEAL Centre d'Arts Digitals (SP), Johan Cruijff ArenA (NL), Puy du Fou (FR), Parco Giardino Sigurtà (IT)

Best Landmark: This award recognizes the best-rated cathedrals, churches, castles, palaces, historical or iconic landmarks based on Tiqets’ visitor reviews in 2020.

Winners: St Paul’s Cathedral (UK & Ireland), The LINQ High Roller (US), Casa Vicens (SP), Skyview de Pier (NL), Château Royal d'Amboise (FR), Palazzo Ducale (IT)

Best onsite experience: This award recognizes the venues that are best rated for their onsite experience, based on Tiqets’ visitor reviews of staff interaction and information at the venue in 2020.

Winners: Irish Whiskey Museum (UK & Ireland), Titanic museum attraction (US), 

Albaola, the Sea Factory of the Basques (SP), Ripley's Believe it or Not Amsterdam (NL), Dalí Paris (FR), Catacombe di San Gennaro (IT)

Tiqets also opened two new award categories this year to recognize venues most impacted by or most proactive in response to the COVID-19 crisis: Best Hidden Gem and Most Innovative Venue. More than 70 applications were received for these awards, which were evaluated on the strength of their application by a panel of cultural experts. These 15 judges included regional travel and culture experts from each market and one global judge, travel tourism industry expert and CEO of Arival Douglas Quinby.

Best Hidden Gem: This award recognizes unique, niche attractions that are likely to have been hit hardest by the COVID-19 crisis.

Winners: Forth Boat Tours (UK & Ireland), ARTECHOUSE (US), Museo Chillida Leku (SP), Youseum (NL), Paris Musées: Musée de la vie romantique (FR), Parco Archeologico di Rudiae (IT)

Most Innovative Venue: This award recognizes the venues that responded quickly and creatively to new challenges resulting from the COVID-19 crisis.

Winners: Sherlock: The Official Live Game (UK & Ireland), The Mob Museum (US), Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza (SP), Rijksmuseum Muiderslot (NL), Crazy Horse Paris (FR), Circo Maximo Experience (IT)

Highlights of the awards ceremony included a special guest appearance by producer, travel writer, and ace in the travel and tourism industry Simon Calder (UK). His talk entitled “Culture through the Twenties" poked fun at 2020 while sharing an insightful, optimistic view of 2021 and beyond, including never-before-heard predictions for the next decade in travel through 2030.

All 42 winning venues will also receive a €5,000 marketing package provided by Tiqets designed to help them bounce back faster from the impact of COVID-19.
